Welcome to the Big Apple – the starting point of your adventure! Today is an arrival day and at 18:00 hrs you'll meet your tour leader and the Trekkers who'll be your travel companions. Before then, make sure you lap up everything New York has to offer. One of the world’s most famous cities, you’ll feel in awe of the towering skyscrapers and buzzing Times Square. With some of the most densely packed shopping, entertainment and nightlife districts in the USA, it's the city that just keeps on giving.

The often overlooked city of Philadelphia certainly punches above its weight – for a start, it’s where you’ll be able to get a selfie from the top of the ‘Rocky steps’, the setting of the iconic moment from the award-winning movie Rocky. The city has plenty of impressive murals and street art to enjoy, and make sure you visit Reading Terminal Market for an authentic Philly cheesesteak – trust us, they’re delicious! Next up is America’s capital city, Washington DC. A locally guided tour of its famous monuments is included, and you’ll soon be familiar with the likes of the White House, Washington Monument and Smithsonian Museums.hotel

Today you’ll take a drive South to the port city of Wilmington, North Carolina. Beer lovers will revel in the atmosphere on one of the city’s numerous ale trails and can grab souvenirs to enjoy during the rest of the trip at one of the bottleshops. Today you'll be heading out into nature to experience America's most epic national park, Yosemite. It's awesome vistas galore as you drive past towering cliffs, out of this world waterfalls, and pretty meadows filled with wild flowers. As you hit the trails on your second day in Yosemite National Park, make sure you keep an eye out for wildlife also roaming the trails such as deer, elk and - if you're lucky - bears. With over 800 miles of trails within the park, a great place to start your adventure is on The Mist Trail hike, where you'll pass two of Yosemite's most beautiful waterfalls, Vernal and Nevada Falls. No matter which trail you head along, you'll have a blast. If that isn't enough, you can even float down the Merced River on a rubber ring for a totally different perspective of this truly incredible place.

Your next and final stop is the awesome city of San Francisco. Famous for its waterfront full of tasty seafood, and what is probably one of the world's most iconic landmarks, the Golden Gate Bridge, which you'll have the opportunity to walk across. If you have extra time here, explore the quirky bars and cafes where the beatnik generation hung out, or grab a bite to eat in Chinatown. You'll never be bored in San Francisco!

AIRPORT TRANSFER INFORMATION (HOTEL TO AIRPORTS)

The best way to make your way from the hotel to either JFK or LaGuardia airport, is to take the airport shuttle which will cost approximately US$20 plus US$1-2 tip. This is a pooled service and will involve multiple hotel pickups. Please arrange this with the hotel reception. Reliable companies we recommend are Super Shuttle or Go Airlink.

 

AIRPORT TRANSFER INFORMATION (AIRPORTS TO HOTEL)

Transfer from Newark Airport:
Approximately 18 miles. A taxi will cost approximately US$100.00 including tolls and tips. The alternative is to catch the train or Super Shuttle to NY Penn Station (shuttle approximately US$25.00, the train around US$12.50). From here it is a four minute walk to 34th St Penn Station where you catch a further train to Rector St. From there it’s a 1 minute walk to the hotel. If you have the Uber app, this is also an option. 

Transfer from JFK Airport:
Approximately 13 miles. A taxi from the airport can cost approximately US$80.00 and tip. Alternatively, take the monorail to Jamaica Station. Change here to take the train towards Atlantic Terminal. Here, you need to change stations, to catch another train to Wall Street that takes 9 mins by subway and is a 7 minute walk. away from the hotel. The whole journey will cost approximately US$10 by this local transport option. If you have the Uber app, this is also an option. 

Transfer from LaGuardia Airport
LA Guardia – 11 miles. A taxi will cost approximately US$80.00 including tolls and tips. For public transportation, from the Baggage Claim Area of LaGuardia Airport, catch a Super Shuttle to New York Penn Station which is located in Midtown at 31st and 7th Streets (costs approximately US$20 including tip). Then take a four minute walk to take a train from 34th St Penn Station to Rector St, where it is a 1 minute walk to the hotel. If you have the Uber app, this is also an option.

AIRPORT TRANSFER INFORMATION

If you are flying into San Francisco, take the Super Shuttle from the main level of the airport (above baggage collection). It takes 40 minutes and costs US $19-$20 per person, although a tip of US$1-$2 is generally expected. It is recommended to pre-book your transfer on the Super Shuttle website www.supershuttle.com by searching for the “Best Western Plus Americania” when prompted. Alternatively a taxi direct from the airport to the hotel is between US$50-$55 depending on traffic. Or take the BART from San Francisco International, alighting at the Civic Center/UN Plaza which will cost around US$6-$10. From here walk right on 7th Street for approximately 4 minutes.
