Day: 1 Los Angeles & Santa Barbara
Experience Hollywood close-up with a brief tour of this legendary area, before heading west for the first of two nights on the coast, first at Santa Barbara, a "gem of a coastal city" with a decidedly Spanish flair. Slap on the sunscreen to flaunt your tan and volleyball skills.
Accommodation: Camping included
-
Day: 2 Big Sur
With each passing mile on California's most famous road - Pacific Coast Highway 1 - the shore grows yet more spectacular, as Redwood forested mountains lean down towards beautiful sandy beaches and the pounding Pacific swell. Pitch tents by crashing surf then cosy up round the campfire under California stars.
Accommodation: Camping included
-
Day: 3-4 Yosemite National Park
The Sierra Nevada mountains beckon with the towering peaks of Yosemite National Park. We have two days to hike, bike, or float through this extraordinary landscape of glacier-carved granite monoliths, spectacular waterfalls and groves of giant Sequoia trees - the largest living things on earth! If you want a real challenge, try the 17 mile round trip hike to the top of Half Dome!
Accommodation: Camping included
-
Day: 5-6 San Francisco
Next, "Everybody's Favourite City", San Francisco. This town will blow you away. Sunlight on the bay, wispy fog around Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars climbing steep streets: it's a 24-carat stunner. After we view the Bay and Alcatraz on our included sunset sailboat cruise, the party people flock to trendy bars and clubs in North Beach or Haight-Ashbury and that friendly vibe gets even better.
Accommodation: 2 en-route hotel nights paid locally
-
Day: 7-8 Redwood National Park
Making our way up the California Coast, we pass though small quaint coastal towns en route to Redwoods National Park, home of the tallest trees in the world and some of the most spectacular coastal scenery on the Pacific Coast. Leave footprints on what is virtually your private Pacific beach or traipse between gigantic Redwoods, feeling like ants in their mighty shadow.
Accommodation: Camping included
-
Day: 9-10 Oregon Coast & Mt St Helens
Keep that camera handy for the perfect photo, as you hike along the Oregon coast or cruise the massive dunes on a sand buggy. Through Portland into the Cascades for an up-close look at one of nature's volcanic wonders - Mt. St. Helens National Monument. The awesome explosion of 1980 forever altered its alpine splendour, but the partially destroyed mountain is now even more impressive. View the film that captured the actual eruption, and view Spirit Lake nestled below the still smouldering crater.
Accommodation: Camping included
-
Day: 11 Mount Rainier National Park
Journey into the heart of the Cascade Mountains to Mount Rainier National Park, the Range's head honcho and its hiking trails sure live up to the hype. There are over 300 miles available on the parks' network of trails, everything from easy walks through the forests to heart pounding climbs up to the mountain's glaciers.
Accommodation: Camping included
-
Day: 12-13 Olympic National Park
Get ready to roll out for a blast of fresh-air adventure amidst dense rainforest and ancient glaciers. Washington's jewel, Olympic National Park, offers a wide range of vistas including glaciated snowy peaks, spectacular coastal beaches and an ancient rain forest to explore and enjoy. If sore feet deserve a little TLC, let Sol Duc Hot Springs do the honours. Soak it up! This is the life.
Accommodation: Camping included.
-
Day: 14 Seattle
Leaving the mountains of the Olympic Peninsula behind we journey across Puget Sound aboard the ferry from Bainbridge Island to Seattle. Then be whisked 500 feet up the Space Needle (optional). By the way, the elevator's glass, so be prepared for some amazing views!
Tour ends at approx 17:00 hrs in Seattle on day 14.
