Tour Itinerary

As this tour departs at 0730 we recommend that you book pre-tour accommodation. Please request further details at time of booking.

  • Day 1: New York Area & Cayuga Lake

To give yourself time to see New York City why not add a couple of nights before your tour departs to explore? Head to the top of the Empire State Building or take a stroll through beautiful Central Park, there's something for everyone here. On day one you'll head straight to the Cayuga Finger Lake where nothing can beat tasting some of the region's best wines and tasty gourmet treats in one heck of a stunning setting.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 2: Niagara Falls & Lake Erie

Niagara Falls is one heck of a waterfall and the only way you can really experience how truly epic it is, is to grab a blue poncho and step aboard the `Maid of the Mist' cruise. You're sure to get wet, but the immense sound and pure awesomeness of the experience is worth a few soggy clothes! After a great day at the falls you'll head over to Lake Erie where you'll spend the night.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 3: Cedar Point, Ohio

Travelling further on up the road you'll cross over into the state of Ohio. While you're here, ask a `Buckeye' to tell you all about their beloved state nut. Still on the shore of Lake Erie, head over to Cedar Point where you'll find `The Best Amusement Park in the World'. You'll soon see why as the park's roller coasters dominate the skyline as far as the eye can see. After a day full of excitement and thrills, you'll be pleased to rest your weary head for another night next to the beautiful Lake Erie, one of America's five Great Lakes.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 4-5: Chicago

Visit the Amish community in Shipshewana, Indiana, who maintain a more traditional way of life then make a brief stop in Gary, Indiana, for a photo of the house that the legendary Michael Jackson grew up in. Next it's onto Chicago, home to some of the greatest blues music in America. Soar up the Willis Tower for dizzying views over the `Windy City'. Trawl the upmarket malls of Magnificent Mile before taking to pedal power on the included famous `Bobby's Bike Hike' tour. For awesome views of the city skyline head down to Lake Michigan to take in the laid back city vibes and grab yourself a delicious slice of Chicago's deep-dish pizza.
    Accommodation: Hostel nights included

  • Day 6: Wisconsin & Minnesota

If you live for the diary delight that is cheese, you might want to consider moving to Wisconsin. Famed for cheesy goodness, Wisconsin is also known for its beer making, so you can rest assured you won't go hungry or thirsty here! It wouldn't be a road trip in North America if you didn't pay a visit to the iconic Jolly Green Giant Statue in Blue Earth. Head out across the great prairies of America's original western frontier. Resident coyotes may utter the occasional howl as you settle down for some shut-eye under canvas.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 7: Badlands National Park

All signs lead to Wall Drug - the renowned drug store in the little frontier town of Wall. It's so big you need a map, so if you feel at home on an epic shopping spree, you're in the right place! It's time to head into Badlands, where you'll have the chance to experience what it might be like to land on the moon. The bizarre setting of Badlands National Park is truly unusual, so make sure you get snap happy as you explore the unique lunar landscape of low slung buttes, chiselled spires and saw tooth ridges. This definitely isn't the moon and the odd sighting of bison, Bighorn Sheep and prairie dogs only confirms this.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 8: Mount Rushmore

Witness the faces of four of America's presidents peering out from the granite face of Mount Rushmore. The sculpture features presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln and it's pretty darn huge with 60 foot high faces, 500 feet up. Don't forget to check out another rock-carved epic that is the impressive Crazy Horse Memorial, a memory to the famed Lakota Indian war leader and a sight not to be missed.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 9: Cody

It's pistols at dawn as you enter wild Wyoming and head to Cody in the heart of cowboy country. Embrace the cowboy roots, shake a leg and try some two-step as the buckin' bronco rears its massive head! Nothing says Wyoming more than a good dose of rodeo and a Stetson, so why not indulge yourself in a summer rodeo. Enjoy an included visit to Cody Rodeo for an evening of fun (only on departures 1st June-31st August).
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 10-11: Yellowstone National Park

Next up are the wonderful views and hikes that await in the majestic Grand Teton National Park. With few foothills to speak of, the jagged peaks here rise like teeth from lush, flat meadows against bright blue skies. We recommend taking the ferry across to Jenny Lake with a hike up to Inspiration Point for sensational views of the valley, lake and forest below. Rafting the raging Snake River rapids, one of America's last great untamed rivers, should definitely get that adrenaline pumping! If you prefer to stay on dry land how about a shot of 'Red-Eye' whiskey at the Silver Dollar Saloon?
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 12-13: Jackson & Grand Teton National Park

  • Day 14-15: Nevada & Lake Tahoe

Sit back and enjoy the scenery as you and your travelling posse continue westward across the Northern Great Basin. You'll bite off a big chunk of the Nevada desert today and when you arrive in Tahoe you're sure to be blown away by the stunning crystal clear waters and the incredible vistas that surround it. This is the perfect opportunity to go for a quick swim or just chill out. Top the day off with an optional sunset sailboat cruise then try and win big at one of the nearby casinos.

You won't know where to focus your gaze as you drive along winding roads that look out across the beautiful Sierra Nevada. The scenery you pass by will have you itching to get your hiking boots on and discover the awesomeness that is Yosemite. Yosemite National Park is nature's greatest backyard and with both easy and strenuous hikes you're bound to find a trail that suits your ability. Whichever trail you choose you'll be amazed at the magnificent waterfalls and epic cliff faces. Famous for its Giant Sequoias and abundance of incredible wildlife such as bear and coyotes, you should keep your camera to hand at all times. If that isn't enough you can even float down the Merced River on a rubber ring for a different perspective of this truly special place.
    Accommodation: Camping included

If you are interested in visiting Alcatraz we recommend you book your tickets well in advance direct with Alcatraz Cruises. For this tour you should book your ticket for day 19 (1pm onwards). See Tour Extras tab for more information.

  • Day 20: Big Sur & California Coast

With each passing mile on California's most famous road, the Pacific Coast Highway, the shore grows more and more spectacular. Redwood forested mountains lean down towards beautiful sandy beaches and the pounding Pacific swell. As the highway snakes further south, get away from it all amongst the pristine wilderness of Big Sur and stop for that iconic photo viewpoint of McWay Falls before settling in for a night under canvas on the California Coast.
    Accommodation: Camping included

  • Day 21: Santa Barbara & Los Angeles

Enjoy a free day in sunny Santa Barbara to explore the pier, shop or relax on the beach.
