I haven't yet got a definite finishing date for my placement. Can I move dates if I book now?
Sure, camp participants may make one change to a different Trek or departure date free of charge. Any subsequent changes may be subject to amendment fees. If a change is necessary, it is recommended that you do so 8 weeks or more before the departure date. We will try our hardest to accommodate you if you give us less than 8 weeks time, but you may be limited by availability. -
How do I book?
You can choose either to book online or via our London office. If you wish to speak to someone before booking you can call us on (+44) 0208 6820 8920 and we will answer any questions while holding you your discounted seat without obligation for up to 7 days. Alternatively we have a 'live' booking system which you can use to check availability online or make a booking. You can secure you seat with a GBP125.00 per person deposit, the balance being due 8 weeks before your trek departure date. -
What if I need to cancel my trek?
If you cancel your trip 8 weeks or more before departure, you will forfeit the deposit you have paid. However as per above 'Can I move dates if I book now' we will do all we can to move you onto another trip, subject to availability. We do understand that plans sometimes need to be changed and we will try our best to accommodate your needs. Within 8 weeks if you cancel the trip, you will be subject to our standard cancellation charges. -
When should I book by?
We run at full capacity for most of July - September, and many treks are fully booked by the end of June. If you are flexible on dates / areas then you can wait. If you have a specific trek/date in mind we highly recommend you book something and secure it with a deposit as soon as possible. -
How do I claim my discount?
To receive your discount you need to supply your membership number when booking. Please remember, this discount is only valid if you book directly with us, not if you book though an agent. Anyone travelling with you can also receive the same discount. -
How will I receive my documents at camp?
As soon as you have paid for your trek we will email you a link to all of your travel documents and pre-departure information. As almost all camps now have access to the internet you can access these online, or you can print these off before you go (please check your booking 8 weeks before you are due to begin your trek as on rare occasions there can be alterations to start/end hotels or other changes). -
I will already be at Camp when my balance is due. How will I pay this in the US?
If you are already in the US you can pay your balance simply by ringing toll free 1-800-TREK-USA (873 5872) or filling out the email booking form on our website with your booking reference, card details and a request that the balance is taken. -
Will my visa allow me to participate on this trek and enter / leave the US (Canadian /Mexican treks)
You will not be able to re-enter the US from either Mexico or Canada once your visa has expired, but your Trek should be over way before your visa runs out. Please contact your camp or work organization if you have any further questions about your visa. -
I've never camped before!
That's ok, we provide everything you need except a sleeping bag. We do supply a pad to sleep on, but if you prefer added comfort you are encouraged to bring your own self inflating sleeping pad (Thermarest or similar). Our tents are very easy to set up and take down. We camp two people in each four-man tent, leaving enough room for you and your luggage. -
I'm under 21 and am not legal to drink. What will I do if the rest of my group goes drinking?
If you are over 18 you will be treated like an adult by Trek. Some bars will allow you in if you are over 18 but will only serve you alcohol if you are 21. Even if you cannot get into most bars there are plenty of places to go and things to do as long as you are at least 18 (and there is always plenty going on around the various Trek campfires). Your Trek Leader will help tremendously by offering options at each destination. -
What if I meet someone at Camp and want to join a trek together?
Again, this is possible, but is subject to availability, which if you wait too long to book may be limited or non-existent. Please let us know if you would like to change Treks or departure dates as soon as possible to improve your chances of securing a seat. We normally recommend that you give yourself a week after camp ends and before your tour departs to visit friends you have met at camp or explore a few places. If you meet someone who is already booked onto the same Trek as you, let us know and we will ensure that you are on the same vehicle. Remember, your friends receive the same discount when travelling with you! -
I don't want to join the tour in the starting location, but along the route. Is this possible?
We do not recommend it, but it is possible to join a trek along its route. If you do wish to do this, please let us know. We will put a note in your reservation and ask you to contact our local office 3 days before your trek is due to begin. They will put you in touch with your Trek Leader to arrange a local rendezvous point. It will be up to you to make your way to this point at your own expense. -
I'm travelling by myself.
No problem. Approximately 75% of our passengers travel alone and we can arrange for you to share any pre/post tour accommodation with another TrekAmerica passenger. As long as you reserve your room more than a month before departure we can guarantee a shared room. -
I'm not sure if I want to book pre/post tour accommodation yet. Can I add this in later?
Sure, but we do need 1 months notice. Anything less than this would be on request and again is subject to availability. We highly recommend booking into a gateway hotel at least one night before your tour starts, to give you plenty of time to be ready for the 7:30am departures. -
I'm away for a few months and have more than 20 kilos of luggage. What can I do?
We have very limited space on our vehicles due to all of the equipment we have to carry, but the 20 kilo limit is there more for safety then space reasons, so we can be a little flexible on weight. We limit the amount of luggage we can accept to 1 piece of approximately 20 kilos (plus sleeping bag / day pack). We can store excess luggage for you at our LA, NY and Seattle offices for $10.00 per item per week. Please let us know if you would like to use this service. If you do, your luggage will be collected on the morning the trek is due to begin and dropped off at the hotel for your return. Unfortunately, we cannot transfer luggage, only store it. If you need to transport your luggage to a different location, courier companies such as DHL or the US Postal Service (which will be cheaper) will be able to assist. -
How can I be contacted on the trek?
You will be able to access the internet and public telephones in the vast majority of places we visit, although there may be a day or two where you will be in the middle of no-where and unreachable. The Trek leader will also have a mobile telephone for emergencies. You should leave a copy of the emergency contact details (on the Trek Tips leaflet) with your family. Should they need to get in touch with you they can contact our local office who will contact the Trek leader on their behalf. -
I don't want to stay at your gateway hotel. Will you collect me from another hotel?
The treks begin at 7.30am and end at around 6pm so for conveniences sake it is a good idea to stay at our gateway hotels (especially the last evening when you will be tired and dirty) for the night before / after the trek. While we cannot collect you / drop you off at another location, if you are on a tight budget we can recommend cheaper hostel accommodation close to our gateway hotels. -
Do I need to take out Trek America's insurance?
The insurance provided as part of your summer camp package offers coverage for the majority of your needs (please refer to your own policy for coverage details). It does not however include cancellation cover for any extras, such as your TrekAmerica trip, that you may wish to book. We can offer you cancellation cover (please refer to the policy for terms and conditions) for your trek for an extra GBP45.00. This will ensure you will not lose out financially if you cannot participate on the trek for any insurable reason.
