When it comes to food we all know that America is king - and a trip to the States wouldn't be complete without sampling some of the local cuisine. We've found the ultimate All-American foods, which will either leave you reaching for the nearest bucket or drooling over your computer.
So, here we go...
Mostly seen at state carnivals, a corn dog is basically a hot dog coated in a thick layer of cornmeal batter.
Now I can safely say, Pumpkin Pie is awesome! If your trip is in autumn, make sure you hunt high and low for a slice of this sweet, sweet dessert.
Mac & Cheese
This American pasta dish is simple, delicious and most of all covered in cheese, glorious cheese.
Chicken is great, we all love chicken, but you will love it even more when its fried to 600 degrees, burnt to a crisp, smothered in Hot Sauce and served with blue cheese, ooh yeah!
Not necessarily one of the best looking dishes, but certainly one of the tastiest. Originally from New Orleans, it can contain either meat or shellfish and is traditionally served over rice.
The ultimate All-American classic and a popular snack at sports games; a hot dog covered in chilli con carne, what's not to love?
A favourite with Trekkers, this is a must when sitting around a campfire. A cracker sandwich consisting of roasted marshmallow and chocolate, sounds dreamy right?
Chicago Deep Dish Pizza
If you can manage more than one slice of a Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, then you are a legend in our eyes! With a crust three inches tall, filled to the brim with gooey, delicious cheese and tomato, this is definitely not for the faint hearted.
One look at these and you immediately think, why do I want a stick of dog food? But, it is actually a popular dried sausage snack, the Trek jury is still out on this one, we'll let you decide for yourself.
Chicken & Waffles
Chicken and waffles is definitely one dish we are hoping makes its way across the pond. If you love chicken and you love waffles, add a side of maple syrup and a way you go.
New York Bagel
For me there is nothing better than a toasted bagel with your favourite filling and I'm pretty sure the people of New York will agree with me when I say, 'NOM'!
Originally from New England, Clam Chowder is a tasty broth made from, you guessed it, clams with potatoes, celery and onions. Traditionally served in a sour dough bowl, this dish definitely looks the part.
Salt Water Taffy
Now there is some debate here at Trek HQ as to whether or not this popular American candy actually contains salt water or just salt and water. We'll open the floor to you guys, any ideas?
You aren't eating a proper cheese curd unless its squeaks when you bite into it. The rubbery cheese snack is made from American cheddar cheese and are also popular in Canada.
A culinary creation that combines both the cuisine from Texas and Mexico. A delicious mixture of shredded meat, cheese, beans and spices all carefully placed in a tasty taco or fajita, the choice is yours.
Root Beer Float
Yes, we know this is a drink, but it's so yummy we couldn't leave it off the list. The name gives it away, grab a glass of bubbly foamy root beer and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and there you have it, a great summer drink!
